Louisville Zoo’s fall mulch and compost sale:
Sept. 22 and 29
You can purchase rich compost and quality hardwood
bark mulch in bulk quantities at the Louisville Zoo from 10 a.m. to 1:30
p.m. on Saturdays Sept. 22 and 29.
Sales will take place in the lot by the Oasis Tent
located at the Zoo’s second maintenance gate (from the Watterson Expressway,
take Poplar Level Road then turn right on Trevilian Way; make a right on
Illinois Ave. and enter the Zoo’s second maintenance gate on the left).
Please note this is a new location for the sale. Upon entering, you will pay
the cashier then collect your mulch or compost.
Mulch:
$22.50 per load for small pick-up truck
$35.00 per load for medium to
full size pick-up truck
Compost $30 per bobcat scoop
Compost improves the aeration of the soil,
increases root penetration and water retention, which reduces crusting of
the soil surface. Whereas mulch helps reduce weeds and retains moisture.
Proof of the effectiveness of these two products is evident from the healthy
plants around the Zoo.
